A quick rescue was made by two members of the party of 500 who took part In the railway “mystery hike” at Lake Pearson on Sunday. The party had stopped at Flock Hill station for lunch, and a number of persons had gone swimming In the lake. One of the women dived into deep water, she was unable to swim and was immediately seen to be ii. trouble. Rescuers went to her assistance and quickly brought her to shallow water. Resuscitation was unnecessary; but the' victim of the mishap was suffering from shock and had to be taken to Cass in a car from Flock Hill. From Cass she was taken on a railway jigger to meet the special train between Craigieburn and Avoca, but by the time the train was ready to return to Christchurch she had recovered completely.
