KILLING OF DEER

IMPRACTICABLE SUGGESTIONS By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, November 29. A suggestion that the shooting of deer from aeroplanes would more expeditiously and thoroughly cope with the menace does not find favour with the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry. The Minister, In a statement to-day, said the use of aeroplanes by deer destruction parties had been considered and not thought practicable, nor was another suggestion that machine gun fire from an aeroplane would account for thousands of animals in parts of the lower end of the South Island. Mr Parry added chat a plane and machine-gun would not be as practicable or effective as a rifle in the hands of experienced men. Referring to the suggestion for the utilisation through the markets of some deer carcases, Mr Parry said the worst deer-infected areas were in rough mountainous country and it was not possible to save large numbers of skins. That gave some idea of the imposs’bUity of getting out venison in any quantity.
