FAREWELL SOCIAI At . the conclusion of the school concert on Friday evening, opportunity was taken to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs S. Gillies and family who are leaving the district to reside in Temuka. Mr R. J. Edgar on behalf of the residents of the district wished the guests a very happy and prosperous future, and asked them to accept a presentation of a beautiful brass log box and fire screen. The children also received a small parcel. Mr Gillies suitably replied. GARDEN CIRCLE Last Wednesday all members of the Seadown Gardening Circle were welcomed by Mrs G. Stewart, "Greenmeadows,” Orari. The garden with its beautiful flowering shrubs was looking Its best. Afternoon tea was served on the lawn after which thanks were expressed by Mrs Topham and the members for the privilege of the visit. SUNDAY SCHOOL During the year several of the Seadown Sunday School pupils have gained attendance certificates. At the service on Sunday last the Rev. Nichol was asked to present them and in doing so he said he hoped it would encourage many more in the coming year. He wished all parents, children and friends a very happy time at the annual garden party and picnic. The following is a list of those who gained certificates: Mary Hedley, Beryl Hughes, Bessie Greenlow, Jean Dunnett, Gretta Greenlow, Shirley Patterson, Jean Hewson, John Hewson, Graham Ward, Bernard Hedly, Ross Paterson, Malcolm Cargo. SCHOOL CONCERT The annual concert of the Seadown School took place on Friday evening. 7'aere was a record attendance. All

the items were of a high standard, those by the month organ band being especially popular.

The programme was as follows: Opening speech, Russel Lear; nursery r' ymes, infants; "The Three Bears,” Jack Phillips, Rita Oldfield, Owen Ward; tap dance, .Mary Hedly and Theresa O’Connor; “Ten Little Nigger Boys,” Infants, Standards 1 and 2; "Red Riding Hood”'; tap dance, Jean Dunnett; song, “Land of Nod” Infants; violin solo, Norm.; Fitzgerald; recitation, "Early One Morning.” Graham Ward; songs, "Good King Wenceslas” and “Spring,” pupils; sword dance, Mary Hedly; play, “Poor Jack,” by Therese O'Connor. Joan Pemberton and Jim Stevenson; choral speaking, Standards 2,3, 4; songs, pupils; dialogue, “The New Baby,’” Jean Dunnett and Joan Pemberton; tap dance;; play, “King Alfred and the Cakes,” John Hewson, Kevin O’Connor and Jean Dunnett; operatic dance, Natalie Giles; mouth organ band. At the conclusion of the concert, Mr lard (headmaster) thanked all parents and friends for their support, and said f at the children would benefit considerably from the proceeds. Supper was handed round and those remaining Indulged In dancing until a late hour. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss H. Phillip and Mr Allen.
