RIFLE SHOOTING

TIMARU DEFENCE CLUB On Saturday afternoon the Tlmaru Defence Rifle Club fired another round of the championship, the conditions being seven shots at 300, 500 and 600 yards. The Gabites Cup was competed for and attracted the biggest .muster on the range this season. Shooters were troubled with a hard light at 300 yards and scoring was patchy. L. Murray returned the best score a possible, 34. Conditions were easier at 500 yards and good scores were numerous, C. H. Johnston securing the possible. The light failed badly at the long range and most of the leading men crashed. F. R. Cross who came back with 67, shot 33 at this range, making his total for the day 100. He was successful in winning the Gabites Cup, the gold rifle and the trophy. The scores were:—
