FURTHER SERIES OF MATCHES - T** - F. S, THOMSON BOWLS WELL Splendid * weather prevailed on Saturday for the commencement of a further series of matches in the South Canterbury Cricket Association’s competitions. School and Temuka met on the Rectory and at the close of the day’s play, School had a good first innings lead, Temuka making 116 and School 166. Star put up the good total of 230 against Old Boys B who, at stumps, had lost six wickets for 43 runs. Playing at Geraldine, Old Boys A dismissed the country eleven for 70, F. S. Thomson taking nine wickets for 33 runs. At stumps Old Boys had 146 on the board for the loss of nine wickets. TEMUKA V. HIGH SCHOOL Temuka and High School commenced their match on the Rectory wicket. Batting first Temuka compiled 116, and at one stage they had nine of the School batsmen out for 92. They had every prospect of a first Innings lead, but they then lost their grip and Tait and Saunders put on 74 runs for the last wicket, giving School a handsome lead. Colville and Deady opened for Temuka, and had 31 on the board when Deady played over one from Saunders and was clean bowled. Lang joined Colville and the two left-handers looked like giving School some trouble until Colville was taken by Tait off Saunders. Runs came slowly for a period, and then three wickets fell for the addition of only five runs. Seven wickets were down for 99, and the remaining three wickets added only 18 runs, the side being out just before 4 o’clock for 116. School opened their Innings disasterously, two wickets being down for eight runs, while three were down for 27. When Williams and Blue became associated, however, the rot was stopped temporarily, the pair taking the total t 54 when Blue was beaten by Johnson. Williams batted very stubbornly, end really saved the side from being dismissed for a small total. The Temuka bowlers were definitely on top when they had nine batsmen out for 92 runs, but when Tait and Saunders became associated for the last wicket, Reynolds changed his tactics, sending up slows. The batsmen went for the bowling properly, and scored all round the wicket, hitting up 74 between them in splendid time. Eventually Saunders was dismissed off Reynolds, who had unfortunately ricked his leg, and the Innings closed for 166. Saunders scored 46 Including five boundaries and Tait 32 not out.
