HUNDREDS OF ARRESTS REPORTED CATHOLIC YOUTH CLUBS BANNED United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright BERLIN, November 26. The largest church in Berlin was filled to overflowing at a service of intercession for 146 Protestant clergymen who are imprisoned for disobedience of decrees which they consider to be an illegitimate interference with religion. Three hundred pastors from all parts of Germany testified to the general indignation. The sermon referred to the efforts to make those who are imprisoned recant. Promises of release were offered if they promised not to oppose the Government ta future. The names of pastors and laymen who are imprisoned were read out and It was announced that over 700 were arrested ta a single day. Thirty hare been ordered not to preach and 50 have been expelled from their parishes. Delegates from sixty Jewish communities attended an emergency session of the American-Jewish Congress for the purpose of formulating a world-wide organisation to fight antiSemitism. The report stated that 5,000,000 Jews in Central Europe are seriously endangered by anti-Jewish movements and Totalitarian Governments. The reports urged that the cardinal task was in defence of the status of the Jews. Reactionary forces ta Central and Eastern Europe were responsible for the most brutal oppression the world had ever seen. Their method is the pogrom, popularised by Nazi Germany, and adopted in Poland, Rumania, Danzig, Austria, Hungary and other States, apparently anti-Semitic. Responsible officials of the Henlein Party claim that they have information that there have been hundreds of arrests since November 10, of members of the Austrian army who are suspected of Nazi activities. The Austrian Press has not mentioned the arrests.
