Miss Maude Valerie White, composer of many popular songs, who died at her London home this month at the age of 82, had latterly been in reduced circumstances, and received in July, 1935, a Civil List pension of £lOO in recognition of her services to music. Her output was large, among them “Until.” More than 300 entries appear under her name in the British Museum music catalogue. It was Charles Santley, the Victorian baritone, who set Miss White on the road to success. She has composed in her Royal Academy days two songs, “Absent, Yet Present," and “Montrose’s Love Song.” These were shown to Santley, who included them in his programme at a Monday "Pop,” at St. James’s Hall. King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra (then Prince and Princess of Wales) were at the recital.
