PRODUCE MARKETS
SOUTH CANTERBURY With the exception of fowl wheat there is very little activity in the South Canterbury grain, seed and produce markets this week. There has, however, been a fair amount of forward inquiry for oats and potatoes. Fowl Wheat Fowl wheat is in good demand at 5/9 a bushel f.o.b. Oats The market is still being supplied with cheap oats from Bluff. Nominal quotations are;— A Gartons 2/11 a bushel on trucks. B Gartons 2/9 a bushel -n trucks. Algerians 3/2 a bushel on trucks. Duns 3/6 a bushel on trucks. Partridge Peas No. I’s are worth 5/- a bushel on trucks. Chaff The value of chaff is £3/10/- a ton on trucks. Potatoes New potatoes are now coming on uO the market and there are fortunately very few old ones to clean up. Forward quotations are:— Sutton’s £4/10/- a ton on trucks. White’s £4/5/- a ton on trucks. Seeds Locally there is very little der nd for grass seed owing to the dry conditions, but there is a little better inquiry from the North Island for special lines. Nominal quotations are:— Ryegrass 3/3 a bushel on trucks. Italian 2/9 a bushel on trucks. Cocksfoot 7d to 8d per lb. Cowgrass 7d per lb. White clover 8d per lb.
