TESTIMONIAL MATCH

RICHARDSON AND GRIMMETT With the choosing of the teams, the stage is set for the Richardson-Grim-mett testimonial match in Adelaide on November 26. With close on £lOOO already in hand, and an enthusiastic committee working hard in the interests of the event, it should need only fine weather to ensure large attendances and a handsome cheque for each of the two men who have done so much for South Australian and Australian cricket. They are deserving of it all. The two sides chosen by the South Australian selectors appear to be well balanced, and as the game is in the nature of a test trial there should be some very keen cricket. The eyes of the Australian selectors will be on the players, and they will therefore be anxious to do their best. Although there ara two or three other players one would have liked to see in the 22 chosen, no exception can be taken to any of those selected. With only 22 places to fill someone had to be disappointed, but this will make them all the keener to do better in the other games. Among those omitted men that come to mind who are in the running for selection for England, and who doubtless would have liked this chance to show what they can do, are Rigg, who played well in the test last season, and has been a great success as one of Victoria’s opening batsmen; White, the New South Wales left-arm bowler; Cotton, the South Australian fast bowler, and Lee, the Victorian leftb - 1 batsman. Then there are Barnett and Tallon, the wicketkeepers, but it was only natural that Oldfield, who has been so closely associate with Richardson and Grimmett in Australian cricket, and Walker, their own ’keeper in the South Australian eleven, should receive the preference in this game. The omission of Barnett and Tallon does not mean that they will not have their claims for England considered. The same thing applies to the other players who have been omitted.
