LAST SAD RITES

MOURNING IN HOUSE OF HESSE United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright DARMASTADT, November 23. As bells tolled, and flags dropped to half-mast, Prince Louis of Hesse and his young bride led the Royal mourners among whom were Lord Louis Mountbatten. A Vice-Admiral in uniform represented the King and Queen of England and the Marchioness of Milford-Haven represented Queen Mary at the funeral of members of the Hesse family who were killed in the air crash at Ostend on November 17. Sir Auckland and Lady Geddes were present and also the Duchess of Kent and other British Royalties. The ex-Kaiser, Herr Hitler, and General Goering sent wreaths. The scene of the funeral was Rosehill Park.| six coffins, draped with the lion—emblazoned banners of the Hesse family, containing the bodies of the victims and also that of the Grand Duke George Donatus, who died six weeks ago, were placed in a common grave overshadowed by Lebanon cedars. The army and navy were represented and aeroplanes circled overhead. Thousands of people clad in black, and carrying home-made wreaths, lined the streets. A purple-draped altar, surmounted by two burning candles, stood at the head of the grave, the foot of which was embanked with wreaths. The service was conducted in accordance with Lutheran rites.
