Dr. K. J. Talbot, son of Dr. Talbot, Timaru, has been appointed a house surgeon to the Central London Ear, Nose and Throat. Hospital, Gray’s Inn Road, London.
The Council of the South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, at a meeting last night, carried in silence a motion of condolence with Mr John Hole in the recent death of his wife. The sympathy of the Board of Governors of the Timaru High Schools was extended at last night’s meeting to Mr and Mrs A. Neylon in the death of (heir son, who was a pupil of the Boys’ High School.
The resignation of Mr G. D. Virtue as the Timaru Borough Council’s representative on the Board of Governors of the Timaru High Schools, was accepted with regret at last night’s meeting of the Board. Tributes to Mr Virtue’s interest in the schools and to his practical and valuable assistance to the Board were paid by the chairman (Mr H. H. Fraser) and Dr. L. S. Talbot, vice-chairman. Mr Virtue’s resignation also was received last night by the Council of the South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. Reference was made by the president (Mr W. M. Sexton) to the service rendered to the Chamber for a number of years by Mr Virtue, special mention being made of his work as delegate to the Associated Chambers of Commerce.
