“WINE BETTER THAN DIRTY MILK”

Dr Louis Leipoldt’s suggestion, which has disturbed cei'tain interests in South Africa, that it “is better to drink wine than dirty milk,” will no doubt arouse worldwide attention. It is reported by the Capetown correspondent of The Times that protests against the doctor’s statement have resulted in plans being made to test the relative food values of wine and dirty milk. The doctor not only puts forward his claim, but he suggests that the world has accepted the mistaken idea of food values. Doubtless the experiment with identical twins will be watched with the keenest interest. It can be said at once that dirty milk should be ruled out at once as an article of food. What is more dangerous is milk from untested dairy cattle, particularly in view of the Increased consumption of milk being urged upon the community.
