RUTHLESS KILLING
THOUSANDS OF HAITIANS MURDERED United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received November 24. 8.15 pun.) WASHINGTON, November 24. New reports of the Haitian massacres, from sources of unquestioned reliability, have seriously involved President Trujillo. From Dominica reports confirming the slaughter of 5000 Haitians declare that President Trujillo spent the night in the neighbourhood where the killings occurred. They were not border clashes, but part of a well prepared plan. Complaints having been made to President Trujillo that the Haitians were stealing cattle from the Dominican ranches, he made a strong speech declaring that drastic steps might be taken to eno the depredations. The Dominican national police herded the Haitian men, women and children to the border, ostensibly with the purpose ot deporting them. One observer declared, "apparently with the approval of President Trujillo a systematic campaign of extermination was conducted, with ruthless efficiency, by the national army and police." Other observers declare that many areas where the killings were carnet out resembled battlefields. In othei places, the bodies were tossed into the sea for sharks.
