So far six entries have been received by the Ashburton High School Board for John Bell Memorial Scholarships, which are awarded each year and are tenable at the Ashburton High School for a period of two years. There were 12 entrants last year and seven in 1935. Other conditions for the scholarships are that the , candidat s must be sons of Ashburton County residents, and they must be prepared to take an agricultural course at the school. In addition to holding a proficiency certificate the boys must pass an examination in English, arithmetic, and elementary agriculture. The annual value of each scholarship is £lO, and at least two may be granted each year.
