DEFEATED IN LAST MATCH

NEW ZEALANDERS IN AUSTRALIA TEST BATSMEN IN FORM United Press Association—By Eectrto Telegraph-Copyright (Received November 22, 8.10 p.m.) SYDNEY, November 22. The New Zealand crlctrters lost their last match of their tour when New South Wales defeated them by a comfortable margin of eight wickets. The Welshmen did not secure their victory, however, before they had experienced some uneasy moments as the result of a fine opening attack by Cowie. A pleasing feature of the match was the way some of the New Zealanders handled O’Reilly's bowling. Ninth Wicket Stand

When the game resumed to-day, nearly an hour late, owing to rain, the wicket was not affected. But as the foothold was uncertain for the fast bowlers, O'Reilly, Jackson and White continued the attack. Hadlee stepped out fearlessly and smote each of these to the boundary. The total reached 200 in 182 minutes, and with Tindill showing strong defence, a fifty partnership for the ninth wicket was realised after 43 minutes’ play. Hadlee was batting very confidently, when he edged one and Oldfield took the fourth catch of the Innings. Hadlee batted 75 minutes and hit seven fours. Tindill was dismissed without addition to the score, and New South Wales was left with 138 runs to ma' 1 to win. The New Zealanders' innings occupied 207 minutes. Sensational Opening Cowie and Carson opened the bowling in New South Wales second innings, and in the former's second over, he secured the wickets of Cheetham and McCabe. As in the fir ) Innings, Cowie bowled McCabe with a ball that swung in. McCabe, who is in splendid form this season, having scored several centuries in grade games, was completely beaten by the pace and swing of the ball, with the total of five for two wickets Cowie had taken two wickets for one run. Flngleton and Chipperfield then became associated, and secured the necessary runs for the victory. The pair batted very carefully until the fifty was passed and then they opened out and scored all round the wicket. Bowling Lacks Sting The bowling, apart from Cowie, lacked sting. Parsloe was not bowled until the total was 82, and then only for one over. During this over there was a peculiar incident. Chipperfield swung vigorously and missed, fell on the pitch and rolled on his wicket which was broken. Parsloe appealed first to one umpire and then the other umpire, but Chipperfield was given not out. The umpires apparently ruled that the batsman had completed the stroke before breaking the wicket. Eight bowlers were given a turn and runs camo quickly at the end. Chipperfield batted 105 minutes, his score, including eight fours, and Flngleton was in for 119 minutes for five fours. Following are the scores:—

LOSS ON AUSTRALIAN TOUR STATEMENT BY MANAGER United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received November 23, 1.25 a.m.) SYDNEY, November 22. The manager of the New Zealand cricketers, Mr T. C. Lowry, estimates that the extra expense associated with the Australian visit amounts :o £7OO. He was afraid that as the team had been guaranteed only 75 per cent of the net profits of the Australian matches, the loss on the Australian tour would probably amount to £350. The early dismissal of Bradman in the South Australian match certainly affected the attendance in that State. The takings In the match against New South W:.’’s amounted to £446.
