An exhibition of New Zealand publicity matter, including dioramas, posters and photographs, opened on Wednesday at the reception room, Parliament Buildings, Wellington. The matter was for the most part the product of the Government studios at Miramar and of high quality. The most striking exhibits were a number of large dioramas, with greatly enlarged photographic backgrounds heavily retouched with bright colour. The principal one depicted Mount Egmont seen mirrored in a placid lake, and was a quite outstanding scenic subject carried out in a manner that did it full justice. Mr G. Bridgman’s painting of one of the West Coast Sounds with a launch floating on a sea that reflected the lofty peaks illustrated effectively the poster art of simplicity. Mr L. C. Mitchell’s posters in many cases caught the character of the New Zealand subjects with great accuracy. Mr Harry Rountree’s leaping swordfish Is considered by many to be the finest poster tn the collection.
