DAFFODIL SHOW RECORD RECEIPTS The honorary secretary of the Geraldine Horticultural Society, Mr G. W. Coombs, reported to a meeting of the Committee on Saturday . evening that the recent Daffodil Show had been a success in every way. The door takings constituted a record, and the proceeds from the novelty plant stall conducted by the president, Mrs W. P. D. Barker, amounted to £7/1/4. A vote of thanks was extended to Mrs Barker and her assistants in appreciation of their efforts on behalf of the Society. The matter of seasonal talks on popular varieties of flowers was left to the Emergency Sub-committee comprising the chairman, Mr E. R. Guinness and Messrs G. H. Patrick and G. W. Coombc. A decision to sub-divide the cut flower section at the Summer Flower Show on February 9, 1938, into two sections—an open section, and a class for competitors who have not won more than six first prizes at any Summer Show held during the past ten years, was made. The chairman extended a welcome to the president, Mrs W. P. D. Barker and the vice-president, Mrs E. S. Elworthy. A motion of sympathy with Mr F. Naylor and family, Mr G. E. Berry, and Mr Robert Nairn (Christchurch), in their recent bereavements was carried in silence. Reference was made to the services of Mr A. Sutherland, an energetic member of the Committee for some years, who had left Geraldine to reside in Christchurch. A vote of thanks, with an expression of best wishes for Mr Sullivan’s future success, was carried unanimously. An offer by Mrs J. M. H. Tripp to give a silver challenge cup was accepted with thanks, and it was decided that the trophy be awarded to the exhibitor gaining the most points in the restricted cut flower section at the next Summer Show. Mr E. B. D. Logan was thanked for his offer to give a miniature cup, which it was decided would be retained by the winner of Mrs Tripp’s challenge trophy. An offer of a quantity of choice daffodil bulbs by Mr J. S. Barker was accepted with thanks, and It was decided that they be sold at a stall to be held in. conjunction with the Summer Show. The committee agreed that the Jubilee Challenge Cup and miniature be awarded to the exhibitor gaining most points in the fruit section at the forthcoming show. An anonymous donor was thanked for an offer of £l/1/- as a prize for a “competitive bay” class, and It was decided that each exhibitor be granted a 6ft frontage in which to stage his or her display. GOLF CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS The various championships conducted by the Geraldine District Golf Club have now been completed. The results are as follow: Men’s Senior Championship T. C. Clarkson beat J. C. Templer, 3 up and 2 to play, over 36 holes. Men’s Junior Championship P. F. E Russell beat G. N. Feliden, 5 up and 4 to play, over 36 holes. Women's Senior Championship Mrs J. C. Templer beat Mrs A. L. Brenton. Women’s Junior Championship Mrs D. LeCren beat Mrs W. C. Webb, 7 up and 6 to play. Men’s Ringer Competition The men’s ringer competition which was completed at the week-end was won by T. C. Clarkson, with a score of 60. Other good scores were those of R. Patrick 64, W. C. CROQUET CLUB Competitions in connection with the opening of the Geraldine Croquet Club held on Saturday were won as follow: Gclf croquet, Mrs Gudsell (Winchester) ; hoops, Mr Peters (Invercargill) ; clock, Mrs Patrick; hitting the peg, Mrs Gudsell; mallet competition.
