LODGE INSTALLATION At the half-yearly installation of officers at the Tengawai Lodge, Bro. C. J. Talbot, past Grand Master of the I. of New Zealand, officiated as installing officer. Bro. J. Braddick officiated as Deputy Marshal, and other brethren of the Gladstone Lodge (Fairlie), ably assisted, and were welcomed by Bro. A. J. Campbell as N.G. As he was retiring from the office of N.G., Bro. Campbell thanked the Tengawai brothers for the enthusiastic manner in which they had supported him. Bro. G. Loomes was Installed as N.G., and Bro. A. Smith as V.G. Other officers elected were: Recording secretary, Bro. A. Stnaill; financial secretary, Bro. E. Higgs; treasurer, Bro. F. J. Davison. The attendance was the best ever obtained for an installation. Bro. Talbot, in his address to the new officers, stressed the importance of lodges for training younger people for public duties in other spheres. He mentioned the names of several past and present statesmen as one-time members of friendly societies. Bro. F. J. Davison was presented with a past Grand Master's certificiate. GENERAL There was a good attendance at the annual meting of the Opawa Tennis Club, which was held in the Mount Nessing Hall. The opening day was fixed for Saturday. Bitterly cold conditions were experienced in the Mount Nessing district last week, after a spell of fine weather. The change was most unwelcome, as lambing was general, especially In the high country. Some high percentages are reported. ATHLETIC CLUB The following handicaps have been declared for the Cycle and Athletic Club’s evening meeting:— Mile Bicycle Race—First heat: E. B. Taylor 20yds, A. H. Carlton 50yds, V. Wall 150yds, A.
