PAREORA There was a good display at the annual flower show of the Pareora Women’s Institute. The judges were.— Flower section, Mr J. Mclntyre; cookery, Mrs Underhill: handwork, the Misses Arden. On the suggestion of Mrs A. Munro it was agreed to send some of the flowers to members in hospital. The president reminded members of gifts to be brought for the Makogai lepers at the October meeting. A welcome was extended to Mrs Mills after her illness. She congratulated Pareora on winning the Drama Cup, and gave a resume of the round table conference held in Wellington in July. Members and friends took the opportunity of tendering a farewell to Miss Jean Munro who is shortly to be mar-

ried. Mrs Whitticase spoke of her ' work on the Institute and as a mem- ; ber of the committee, saying how much she would be missed. She thanked Miss Munro for all her assistance, and, wishing her every happiness, asked her to accept a number of gifts from her many friends. A pianoforte solo was given by Miss L. Coote. GERALDINE The October meeting of the Geraldine Women’s Institute, at which the president (Mrs L. S. R. King) occupied the chair, took the form of a spring flower show where a large number of beautiful blooms, grown by members and friends were exhibited. Before commencing the business, a motion of sympathy was extended to Mr F. Naylor and family in their bereavement. Three resignations were accepted with regret. Mrs F. W. Grayburn and Miss A. Williamson were appointed delegates to the South Canterbury Federation meeting at Pleasant Point. Members were asked to remember the appeal for Christmas gifts for the lepers at Makogai. The domestic scheme was outlined, and Mesdames L. S. R. King and F. \V. Grayburn were appointed to report to the next meeting of delegates in Timaru. Mrs Geo. Watts gave the golden thread talk. Mrs A. G. Brown, who was asked to speak on the round table conference she had attended at Wellington on behalf of the South Canterbury Federation, was thanked by the president for her instructive talk. A vote of thanks was accorded Mrs J. C. Templer and Mr G. W. Coombs who acted as judges at the flower show. During the evening. Miss Amy Williamson contributed two vocal solos.
