Mr and Mrs F. A. Bates, Christchurch, are at the Balmoral. Mr and Mrs T. A. Quirk, Invercargill, are staying at the Empire. Mr and Mrs N. Hope, Fairlie, are guests at the Grosvenor. Mrs McCallum, Christchurch, is staying at the Dominion. Mrs T. E. Holdgate, Branscombe Street, has returned from a visit to Auckland. Mr and Mrs L. S. Dobson, Tlmaru. are the guests of Mr and Mrs J. Barrie Martin, Wellington, is on a visit to her sisters, the Misses Hassell, “Carshalton,” North Street. Mr and Mrs A. R. Turnbull, Christchurch, are visiting Timaru and are staying at the Grosvenor. Mr and Mrs Wolsey Kain, who have been spending the winter months at “The Bungalow,” Wai-iti Road, have returned to Ben Nevis, Central Otago. Miss Ada Inman. Cattle Valley, who has been spending the winter months in Auckland will leave this week to stay with her sister, Mrs Sydney Quartley, Palmerston North. Mrs B. B. Walton, Oamaru, who recently returned from a trip to Great Britain returned home yesterday after a visit to her sister, Mrs Malcolm Guild, “Trevenna,” Temuka. Mrs Rivett-Carnac, wife of Captain J. W. Rivett-Carnac, of H.M.S. Leander, has left for Rotorua and Napier, en route to the South Island, where she will remain during the Leander's visit to southern ports. Scottish hostesses are showing a preference for jellies rather than jams, to be served not only at breakfast, but for luncheon and dinner as well. Tart jellies made of fruit or herbs are now being served with game and meat, as a change from sauces. Passion-fruit jelly is becoming very popular for breakfast. At Balmoral, Queen Elizabeth always has Scottish heather honey on her breakfast table, as well as home-made jams and jellies.
