SHANGHAI, October 8. “The war has been going on a long time, so we are taking two days’ holiday and are resting,” said a Japanese spokesman explaining' the Inactivity on the front where the push has been brought to a standstill. The Japanese are cleaning up their trenches, repairing the bridges across the creeks and strengthening their communications in heavy drizzle. Thirty planes continue strafing the Chinese lines. Six planes bombed Nankin. One was brought down in flames by anti-aircraft fire. HELP FOR CHINA FUND OPENED IN ENGLAND British Official Wireless (Received October 6, 5.5 pm.) RUGBY, October 5 An anonymous donor has offered aid for the medical work of the Presbyterian Church of England missionaries in the war stricken areas in China. The donor has also promised to provide 100 gross of bandages and supplies of iodine. The Lord Mayor and Corporation of London and the Governor of the Bank of England are organising a Chinese relief fund.
