BOXING

MATCH WANTED FOR SHARPE By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, October 6. The Australian light-weight professional boxer Jacky Sharpe, who knocked out the Wellington boxer Stan Smith in a contest at Greymouth last Saturday, Smith later dying in hospital, is to be matched again as soon as an opponent can be found for him, according to a statement by his manager, Mr J. Sullivan. “It is my one ambition now to get Jacky another fight,” said Mr Sullivan. “Were he to give up boxing now the fact that the last blow he had made had killed his opponent would linger in his mind for the rest of his life, and would probably ruin him.” Mr Sullivan particularly desired to match Sharpe against J. E. Rainer. “THROUGH WITH FARR” DECISION OF BOXER'S MANAGER United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, October 5. Mr Broadribb, who has returned from America, said: “I’m through forever with Farr. Although technically his manager, until the contract expires next July, I am having nothing more to do with him. Publicity went to Farr’s head, and long before the fight he thought he was already world champion. He resented me being in the ring during sparring, and telling and showing him what to do in front of critics. Finally, he told me he could get on better without me in the ring, and threatened to punch my nose. That was after the fight. I was unable to stand it longer, and we broke.”
