“I did not agree to be engaged to Nessim Pasha for his name and glory, but after al! this introgue against the dignity of the man I love, I have decided to leave this country until public opinion in Egypt can appreciate my real feeling,” said Marie Huebner, in a statement.
Nessim Pasha issued a statement in which he said he never would agree to a commercial marriage, therefore he would abandon the marriage’ for the time being. A message from Cairo on September 26 stated that the engagement of the ex-Premler Tewfik Nessim Pasha, aged 62, to Marie Heubner, aged 17, whom Tewfik met at an Austrian hotel, kept by the girl’s father, had been broken off. The girl and her parents who were at Cairo were reported to be returning home.
