CONVERSION OF CAR
LABOURER FINED By Telegraph—Press Association ASHBURTON, October 4. Justices of the Peace imposed a fine of £5 on Leonard Frederick Martin, a labourer, of Ashburton, on a charge of converting to his own Use an Ashbur-ton-owned car standing outside the Methven racecourse on Saturday. The accused, who was’ arrested at Chertsey, stated that he was in a hurry to transact some business with an employer at Fairfield, and he took the car after failing to find the owner, with whom he was acquainted. He Intended to take the bar Back to Ashburton. The accused was allowed a month in which to pay the fine and he was ordered to pay for the petrol he had used.
