WOMEN’S DIVISION

TIMARU BRANCH At the monthly meeting of the Timaru Branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, Mrs L. Bell presided. A motion expressing sympathy with Mesdames R. Hart, J. Hart, E. Harvey, W. E. Moyle, E. Stowell, J. Stowell and D. Stowell in their recent bereavements was carried in silence. Mrs Evans read correspondence from Miss McMillan, organiser of the A.C.E. who would be lecturing in South Canterbury at an early date. It was decided to Invite the members of the Women’s Institute, National Council, pupils of the Girls’ High School and the Technical College to attend Miss McWilliams lectures. It was reported that this branch of the Women’s Division could not find one girl who wished to enter the training school for domestics, and it was agreed that this branclj could not support the scheme financially as the strain would be too much on this section of the community. The menu for the A. and P. Society’s new class in adult cookery was discussed. Mrs E. Harvey of the South Canterbury Branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union donates the prizes for this new class: Ist prize £l, 2nd prize 12/6, 3rd pri"e 7/6. Permission was granted to hold a stall at the A. and P. show. Members were asked to support the Women's Division stall, by sending in donations of plants, etc. Competitions resulted as follows: Premier bloom: Mrs Purvis 1, Miss Devan 2. Mrs Purvis's special: Miss Devan 1, Miss Devan 2. Article to cost 5/-: Mrs Stocker 1, Mrs Devan 2.
