ACTION OF FARMERS’ UNION NEW BODY FORMED By Telegraph—Press Association INVERCARGILL, October 4. Support for the guaranteed price for dairy produce and disapproval of tha Farmers' Union was expressed at meeting of farmers at Tussock Creek after an address by Mr Norman McIntyre, one of the conveners of tho meeting, in which lie described the Farmer.s’ Union as a "Squatters’ Dictatorship." It was decided to form a Far. mers’ Co-operative League "in support of guaranteed price for butter and cheese.’’ There was an attendance of 25 at the meeting, which was called “to discuss farmers’ problems and the for* mation of an organisation that will express the opinion o f working farmers.” An assurance that so far as he was concerned the meeting had no political significance was given by Mr Mclntyre, who spoke strongly in favour of tho guaranteed price, claiming that the - tivities of the Farmers’ Union wera "calculated for political purposes.” Mr Mclntyre criticised the Southland Provincial Executive of the Farmers' Union. “I condemn the Farmers' Union for the attitude it has taker, up towards the Government,” he continued. This attitude will be detrimental to the future welfare of tha province. No Government will cr~>tinue to help a province which gives no encouragement when the Government Is doing its best." The first meeting of protest held .n Invercargill about the guaranteed price fo" dairy produce had. Mr McIntyre said, misrepresented the opinion of the body of farmers. Scarcely one representative at the meeting had asked his suppliers whether they were for or against the guaranteed price. Organisation plans were discussed tn committee after the meeting.
