FAREWELL FUNCTION The many friends of Mrs Koens assembled recently to bid her farewell in view of her departure from the district. Vocal items and competitions contributed towards a most enjoyable time. The competitions were won by Mrs A. Hanson, Mrs Judge, Mrs R. L. Sullivan, Mrs R. Depree, Mrs McKenzie, Mrs Lawn, Mrs Robt. Patterson and Miss H. Lange. Songs were contributed by Mrs Judge, Mrs R. Depree, and a reading was given by Mrs Whitticase. Miss Lorna Coote was accompanists. Mrs G. Hurst and Mrs T. Guthrie eulogised Mrs Koen’s good qualities and wished her every success in her new home in. Timaru. Mrs Koens was asked to accept a gold wristlet watch and a shoulder spray with the best wishes of ail her friends. Other speakers expressed tributes and best wishes to the guest of honour. GIRL GUIDES Miss Isa Young, District Commissioner for Girl Guides, recently visited the Pareora Company. The evening was spent in games, competitions and singing. Miss Sunaway also visited the Pareora Company to examine the Girl Guides for their folk d. dicing badge. Those successful were: Bunty Guthrie, Bobby Munro, Betty Gregory, Poppy and Janet Whitticase, Nessie Barr, Sheila O’Connor, Nola Bennison, June Lawn, Jean O'Connor, Margaret and Dorothy Leggott, Barbara Scott, Beverley Sullivan, Heather Whitticase. STAFF PRESENTATION Mr C. D. Brice, foreman butcher at the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company’s freezing works at Pareora, who leaves this week to live in retirement in Christchurch, was farewelled on Saturday by members of the staff. In making the presentation of a set of bowls and a cheque, Mr W. S. Minehan (branch manager) referred to the esteem in which Mr Brice was held by all members and to his capabilities and knowledge of the affairs of his department. Tributes to Mr Brice and best wishes for the future were also expressed by Miss Coote, Messrs P. A. Coote, J. H. Kerr, P. J. Sullivan, L. G. Howard, J. Little, J. McLeod, D. A. Hurst, H. M. Sullivan and B. Hutton. Mr Brice expressed his thanks for the presents and referred to the kindness and good will which had existed among members of the staff.
