LINKING AMERICA AND NEW ZEALAND WORK GOING STRONGLY AHEAD “ United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph— Copyright (Received September 21, 6.30 p.m.) HONOLULU, September 20. Indicating that the Pan American Airways is going ahead with the plans for the Antipodes airlines, despite the mail subsidy difficulties, four Pan American Airways engineers have arrived in the Monterey en route to Auckland. It is understood that tons of equipment are aboard. It is unofficially disclosed that the Pan American Airways bought the barquentine Margaret F. Sterling, at Seattle, which will be used as a base ship at Kingman Reef. The vessel will be towed there in December or January. It is indicated that a test flight will be made to New Zealand- by the new Boeing clipper when completed. Four engineers, Frank McKenzie, Harry Cranston, Walter Graham and Stanley Morris, who are not mentioned in the passenger list, refused to be quoted on the subject. They said they were making a vacation trip. The equipment on the Monterey is consigned to “Gatty, Auckland.”
