CONDITIONS IN TIMARU The weather yesterday was very unsettled, the sky being overcast for most of the day while there were frequent showers of rain. The sky brightened for a time in the afternoon and conditions appeared to be improving, but rain again set in about 5 o’clock and continued steadily for several hours. IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch.— Tire weather was fine and mild in Christchurch yesterday with a light south-west wind. The sky was overcast and light rain was falling last evening. The barometer showed a falling tendency, and the reading at 5 p.m. was 29.65in5. Ashburton. — Light rain, which began on Monday afternoon, fell yesterday with occasional heavier falls. The sky was heavily overcast in the morning. The temperature was not particularly cold and there was a light southerly wind. Four points of rain had fallen up to 9 a.m. Geraldine.—Air temperatures: min. 46. max. 62, at 9 a.m. 52. Showery early, bright sunshine in late afternoon. Temuka.— Rain commenced to fall heavily on Monday and up to 7 a.m. yesterday 40 points were recorded. Between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. a further seven points were registered.
