QUEEN FOR EGYPT
REPORTED ENGAGEMENT OF YOUNG KING United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright ALEXANDRIA, August 23. It is understood that the engagement of King Farouk will be officially announced to-morrow to the 16-year-old daughter of Youssouf Bey Zulficar, a high palace official, whose wife is a lady-in-waiting to the Queen. King Farouk, who is 17* years old, but is already a tall and manly figure, during his recent coronation acted his part in the ceremony with simple dignity when he took the oath to respect the Constitution and to defend his country's independence and territories. Cairo gave King Farouk a wildly enthusiastic reception when he drove through the crowded streets to Parliament on July 29 for his investiture. Since King Farouk succeeded his father, Egypt has obtained complete independence, abolished capitulations, and has joined the League of Nations. Engagement Confirmed King Farouk and his fiancee, Sazl Naz, have been acquainted since childhood. Their mothers are firm friends and arranged the match some time ago. King Farouk formally proposed last night. The official betrothal ceremony will be held within a few days. The marriage will take place in 1938 when the bride will be 17. She has had a European education and accompanied the Egyptian Royalties to Europe recently.
