MAJOR PROBLEMS OF LIFE

ATTITUDE OF MODERN YOUTH QUESTIONNAIRE ISSUED BY CHURCH By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, July 19 To ascertain the attitude of modern youth to such major problems of life as religion, sex, drink and gambling, a list of questions is to be circulated among young people of all social classes in the Wellington Diocese by the Bishop, the Rt. Rev. H. St. Barbe Holland. The questionnaire, which was drafted by the Diocesan Youth Council was to-day presented to the Synod. The Synod approved the proposal, and about two thousand copies of the questionnaire are to be distributed immediately. The list of questions is as follows:

“Please tell me your name and address (if you would like to) and your age and occupation. “What do you think the Church (A) is and (B) ought to be? Is there any place for it in the life of the community for public worship? Do you attend? Does it help you? Might it if differently conducted? Have you any

suggestions? “Do you know anything of the Bible? What do you think of it? What idea does the term ‘prayer’ call up in your mind? Is there anything in prayer? “What do you know about Christ? How did you come by your knowledge? What do you think of Him? Do you think there is a God? What sort of a being is He? Does our attitude to Him matter much?

“Are there any real standards of right and wrong? Why do we call one thing right and another wrong? What is the basis of our moral standards? What would you consider roughly right or wrong, about telling the truth or not, unselfishness, justice, sex intercourse, divorce, drunkenness, gambling? What are the things, if any, in the world as you see it that need changing? Have you any suggestions as to how changes might be brought about? “Now I have asked you plenty of questions. Any questions you would like to ask me I will try to answer in all honesty.”

The Bishop will enclose a personal letter and adds that identity will be treated in the strictest confidence.
