Mr A. C. Priest, of the staff of Tronoh Mines, Limited, Federated Malay States, arrived at Auckland by the Maetsuycker last week on a visit to relatives in Christchurch.

Mr G. J. Grace, of the Palmerston North branch of the Union Bank of Australia, is to take up the position of accountant at the Napier branch to succeed Mr R. E. Sowter, who has been appointed to the position of sub-inspector.

Colonel F. S. P. Nicholls, C.8.E., D. 5.0., officer commanding the Southern Military Command, has retired on superannuation. He will be succeeded by Colonel P. H. Bell, D. 5.0., who formerly he’ld the appointment of general staff officer, Central Military Command.

Mr E. J. Howard, M.P. for Christchurch South, and Mr F. W. Schramm, M.P. for Auckland EasL who were two of the New Zealand representatives at the conference of the Empire Parliamentary Association in London, left England by the Otranto on Saturday on their return to the Dominion.

Mr P. R. McMahon, son of Mr and Mrs J McMahon, Linton, has been granted his Ph.D. after extensive work on wool research at Leeds University He was a student at Massey Agricultural College from 1931 to 1933, In which year he graduated M.Agr.Sc. He went to Leeds University in 1935 after winning the Macmillan Brown Scholarship.
