EUROPE’S NOTABLE TRIBUTE TO BRITAIN.
Mr Neville Chamberlain’s claim that the unanimous decision of the nations represented on the Non-Interven-tion Committee to invite Great Britain to evolve a plan for dealing with the Spanish situation represented a unique tribute, will be welcomed by Britishers at Home and abroad. “I do not believe,” said the Prime Minister, “That a similar tribute has ever been paid to the iinparitality and singlemindednes of a Great Power.” It is plain, moreover, that the confidence reposed in Great Britain by the nations of Europe has deeply impressed Germany and Italy. The most encouraging outcome is that the plan has been so carefully conceived that no nation that really seeks to localise the Spanish conflict, dare stand apart from the company of European peoples who will ultimately accept the proposals.
