HOW MANY?
EMERGENCIES FOR SATURDAY Nineteen players will make the trip to Oamaru for the representative match on Saturday, according to a decision of the Management Committee of the Rugby Union last night, when the necessity of taking a number of emergencies was debated. Mr A. B. Herdman said he could not see the need for taking a large number of emergencies to Oamaru. In his opinion 17 was quite enough. It was not likely that there would be five injuries in the match, and one extra back and one forward should be enough.
Mr S. H. Sullivan, one of the selectors, said he would like 20 players to make the trip.
It was pointed out that if less than 19 men were taken the spare seats in the bus would be filled by nonplayers, and, that being so, the players should have the trip.
It would make no difference to the cost of the bus if more players were taken, said Mr C. L. Cutler. A motion to take four emergencies was carried.
It was also decided to despatch the junior representative team at 10 a.m. and the seniors at 10.30, both to have lunch in Oamaru.
Mr Cutler was appointed manager of the seniors and Mr A. Grant manager of the juniors.
