WEEKLY DANCE There was a good attendance at the weekly dance arranged by the Social Committee of the Victoria Hall. Extras were played by Miss M. Blissett. Miss Davis and partner won the Monte Carlo. Messrs W. J. Jackson, W. Waple and John Cripps were masters of ceremonies. VICTORIA HALL A meeting of the Victoria Hall Committee was held on Friday evening. Present—Messrs L. H. Orbell (chairman), W. J. Jackson, W. Priddle, W. Waple, T. A. Deßenzy, A. G. Kimber, N. G. South, John Cripps.

Mr Orbell said that as he was leaving the district he wished to resign his position on the committee. He had been chairman for the last 14 years, and had seen many changes in the hall for the better during that period. The money that had been raised during that time had been well spent in improving the hall. During his long association with the committee, he was pleased to relate that there had been no discord among the members, who had done their best to work amicably together for the betterment of the hall. It was with much regret that he was leaving Winchester, and he took the opportunity of thanking the members of the committee who had served with him during the last 14 years.

On the motion of Messrs Orbell and Waple, Mr W. Priddle was elected chairman, and Mr W. J. Jackson secretary. The chairman moved that a caretaker be appointed to attend to the cleaning of the hall, and on the motion of the chairman and Mr Waple, Miss B. Wilks was appointed. On the motion of Messrs South and Kimber it was arranged to hold the committee meetings on the first Tuesday in each month. Messrs Priddle, South and Cripps paid a tribute to the work of Mr Orbell as chairman and secretary during the last 14 years. He had always been willing to do anything for the benefit of the hall, and the committee had always worked well with him. While regretting his removal from Winchester, they all wished him and Mrs Orbell every prosperity and good wishes in the future. Mr Orbell briefly acknowledged the good wishes.
