ICE HOCKEY
WINDWHISTLE DEFEATS MOUNT HARPER
Windwhistle beat Mount Harper by 5 goals to 2 in an ice hockey match for the Erewhon Cup, played at Mount Harper. The main fault of the teams was a lack of combination, especially in the Mount Harper team, of which two members had not played on ice before. The teams were:— Windwhistle—H. C. Hiatt, E. Millton (captain), H. Richards (goal), S. Meares, B. Saville, R. G. M. Loughnan, M. Mills, S. Chaffey, O. P. Bayley. Mount Harper—A. E. Allan, A. A. Taylor, C. J. Kerr (captain), W. Taylor (goal), I. E. Dawson, A. Elworthy, E. Mills, J. Ronalds, A. Elliott.
Windwhistle attacked strongly, with noticeable play by Bayley and Saville, but Allan relieved with a good run. After Saville had taken puck back to the Mount Harper third with a brilliant run, Allan just missed the Windwhistle goal after an equally brilliant run. Allan and Taylor were prominent in defence for Mount Harper, but Saville scored. Mount Harper pressed Windwhistle, but Hiatt relieved the pressure. Kerr took up puck in good style and Dawson scored. Windwhistle 1, Mount Harper 1. At the beginning of the second spell Meares scores. Kerr was conspicuous on defence, but Saville broke through and Meares scored again. After closely-contested attempts at scoring'by Mount Harper Meares intercepted a pass from Taylor to Kerr and Saville scored. Windwhistle 4, Mount Harper 1.
Chaffey attacked in the third spell, dribbling along the boards. Bayley missed a long shot at goal after a pass from Hiatt, and Kerr took puck down and scored a good goal. A shot by Kerr was saved by Richards. Windwhistle was attacking strongly, and Bayley took puck down the board, passing to Loughnan, who scored. Windwhistle 5, Mount Harper 2. The cup was presented by Mrs L. Olsen.
