AGREEMENT REACHED
HOTEL WORKERS' DISPUTE By relegr.il>—Prear association WELLINGTON, July 18. After a five days hearing in a Conciliation Council, a complete agreement was reached in the licensed hotels ployees dispute before S. Ritchie, Conciliation Commissioner. Mr W. J. Mountjoy, secretary of the Wellington Employers’ Association, was agent for the employers and Mr F. G. Young for the workers. It was decided that the hours of work be 40 a week to be worked within five and a half days in each week. Overtime is to be paid for at one and a quarter times the ordinary rate for the first four hours, and twice the ordinary rate thereafter. The usual statutory holidays are to be observed, and overtime is to be paid for work on those days. Provision was marie for nine days’ holiday annually on full pay op the completion of 12 months' service. In country districts usual weekly holidays can be accumulated over a period of three months. The scale of wages agreed upon was the same as the 1936 award rates plus five per cent, except in the case of kltohenmen, whose wage was increased to £2/15/- a week plus board and lodgings. The rate for casual workers was increased by five per cent on the 1936 award, and for workers employed on special occasions the increase has been more than five per cent in some cares. The new award, so far as wages alterations are concerned, comes into force on August 1, 1937, and has a duration of one year. The other provisions are to come into force as soon as the award has been made by the court.
