Mrs Eris Scott, Seddon Street, has left on a visit to Wellington, Mr and Mrs P. A. Butler, Poerua, West Coast, are staying at the Grand. Mr and Mrs Farquharstm, Dunedin, are staying at the Dominion. Miss Freda Inder, Dunedin, is staying at the Dominion. Mr and Mrs W. E. Hazlett, Invercargill, are staying at the Grosvenor. Mr and Mrs W. T. Smellie, Invercargill, are guests at the Grosvenor. Mr and Mrs D. Phillips, Dunedin, are staying at the Grosvenor. Mr and Mrs M. Leech, Rangiora, are guests at the Grosvenor. Mr and Mrs E. Lovell-Smith (Christchurch), and Miss Mungerford (Dunedin) are at the Balmoral. Mrs Geoffrey Rich, Cave, will leave to-morrow on a visit to Mrs Maitland Rich, Christchurch. Mrs W. T. Ritichie, "Te Tawa,” returned yesterday from a visit to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Denis Cotterill, Christchurch, spent the week-end with Mrs B. E. H. Tripp, Orielton. Miss Phoeme Campbell, North Street, was the guest of Mrs Maurice Watson, Geraldine, for the week-end. Mr and Mrs Colin Douglas, Waimate, will be Mrs W. T. Ritchie’s guests at Te Tawa for the Hunt Club festivities. Mrs H. Macfarlane, “Waikora,” Waihaorunga, and Miss Erica Wcstmacotr., Nile Street, have returned from a visit to Mrs F. Britten, Christchurch. The engagement is announced of Maud Annie, second daughter of Mr R. Dawe and the late Mrs Dawe, the Meadows, Washdyke, and James Prior, of Timaru, eldest son of Mr and Mrs E. A. Prior, Reefton. Mr and Mrs Derrick Orbell, ’‘Balmoral,” Mackenzie Country, Miss Patsy Harper, Mr Gordon Harper, Four Peaks, and Mr Tony Ritchie, Dunedin, will be the guests of Mrs W. H. Orbell, "The Levels,” for the hunt ball and races. New Zealand friends cf Miss Rosemary Rees, the novelist, will regret to learn that she is seriously ill, with a nurse in constant attendance, at her flat at Rushcutters Bay, Sydney. Miss Rees arrived in Sydney a few weeks ago with the firm Intention of completing a new book by the end of the year. However, owing to her illness, that project has had to be abandoned for the time being.
