The two commissions that are now operating in Otago for the adjustment of mortgage difficulties are making good headway with the total of over 1300 applications which faced the Otago Mortgage Adjustment Committee in February of this year when the period for the lodging of applications expired. Six weeks ago the Dunedin City Adjustment Commission commenced work, confining its attention to urban proi perties and leaving all rural adjustments to the earlier established body. Since February 260 cases have been disposed of, this figure Including about 100 withdrawals on the part of applicants who were able to settle their differences without reference to the commissions. The applications yet to be dealt with number just over 1000. Tire Hon. F. Jones says that the Government has no intention of using New Plymouth’s airport, nor has it considered such an idea. The airport is the property of the Borough Council. He says it is true, however, that steps are in progress for the acquisition of a suitable area of land at Ohakea, between Palmerston North and Wanganui for a defence airport.
