DEFENCE OF GOD AND CHURCH
CHICAGO PRELATE PRAISED United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received July 18, 7.25 p.m.) ROME, July 17. The Pope received the Chicago pilgrimage. His Holiness praised the “greatness of the magnificent Cardinal Mundelein, who had been so courageous in the defence of the rights of God and the Church.” Cardinal Mundelein became involved with Germany because of his disparaging references to Herr Hitler, whom he described as an Austrian paperhanger. The Pope, on his part, refused the German demand that he should discipline the Cardinal of Chicago.
