“WILL MAKE BID FOR THRONE”

DUKE OF WINDSOR DISCUSSED OUTBURST BY ENGLISH CLERGYMAN PROMISED ATTACK ON ARCHBISHOP United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received July 18, 6.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, July 17. The Rev. Anderson Jardine (the Anglican clergy lan who officiated at the Duke of Windsor’s marriage and is engaged in a lecturing tour in the United States), in an interview, said: “I believe the Duke of Windsor will make a strong -bid for the Throne in the event of anything happening to George VI.” Mr Jardine added: “George the Sixth has given strong indications of emulating the Duke of Windsor in attempting to introduce the ‘resumption of kingly activities.’ ” “Will Blow Off Lid” In another interview with “The New York Times,” Mr- Jardine alleged that the Church of England inspired hostile United States forces to persuade American charities to abandon their sponsorship of his lectures. He threatened to “bloi off the lid and expose the real reasons” for the abdication of King Edward, in his first speech, at Baltimore on July 22. He added that a po.itical alliance between Earl Baldwin and the Archbishop of Canterbury had forced the abdication, and was leading to the disestablishment and disendowment of the Church. He said he thought the Archbishop of Canterbury’s whole attitude was unchristian. Mr Jardine added: “I will be a freelance preacher when I return to England, del: /eriiig talks .imllar to those I Intend to give in the United States. Certainly I will talk freely In England. I do not fear the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Church. I intend to tell the truth about them both.”
