FROZEN MEAT

QUOTATIONS ON SMITHFIELD LAMB MARKET STEADY The market for best quality lamb is steady, with prices unchanged, according to the weekly report of the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board. Other descriptions of lamb are slightly easier owing to competition with Australian and Patagonian supplies. The market for wethers is firm owing to light stocks, and ewes are quiet and unchanged. The frozen beef market is nominal and chilled beef is generally easier owing to the hot weather affecting demand. Trade for New Zealand porker pigs is slow. New Zealand baconer pigs are steady and unchanged. Following are the latest quotations announced by the Board, together with the values ruling at the close of the two previous weeks:—

DEMAND RESTRICTED 1 By Telegraph—Pres* Association DUNEDIN, July 16 The first opossum sale for the season was held to-day when approximately 4800 skins were offered. The quantity forward was exceptionally small owing to very rough weather conditions since the trapping season opened, and as most of the skins offered were early caught, the quality was not good. The demand was restricted except for the best grade skins, which sold well up to last season’s rates, 16 - being obtained for super blues. Secondary and inferior grades were generally about 6d lower than last season. The wool sales closed with an offering of 7256 bales, including 5001 New Zealand; 5994 bales were sold. Competition was active, and good clearances were effected at film rates.
