WIDESPREAD STORM IN ENGLAND INTENSE VIOLENCE OF GALES British Official Wireless RUGBY, July 15. Violent thunderstorms occurred in England. Weymouth had a cloudburst, which flooded many shops and houses. Dorcester, Dartmoor and Bristol had similar experiences. At Leicester the county cricket ground torrent can-led away chairs and forms through the bursting of a stormwater sewer. In London, lightning struck some houses. The storms were the worst within living memory. Lightning caused extraordinary havoc during the thunderstorm, At least twenty houses and many stacks were blasted and numerous fires occurred in London and elsewhere, A Royal Air Force bomber was forced down during the thunderstorm at Melton Mowbray, and the pilot and observer were injured. A second bomber crashed in flames in Somerset and two passengers and the pilot had miraculous escapes. Weymouth experienced the worst floods for 40 years. Children were taken from the schools in boats in the low, lying districts. Bristol was flooded to a depth of six feet.
