HEAVY WEIGHT PIGS
SOME GREAT RECORDS An English farmer, Mr Joseph Whittle, published a statement a little while ago to the effect that he had killed a sow weighing 6501bs and added that he did not think this could be beaten. His challenge, how-
ever, has been taken up from many quarters. Mr A. Holland, of Surrey, has produced evidence to prove that in 1936 he slaughtered a sow which weighed 7261b5, while another he purchased at the Battle market he fattened and killed and she scaled 8601bs. Here are some other weights forwarded to a well-known stock journal: Mr C. G. Stanford (Cambridge), 7521b5; Mr J. H. Darch (Devon), 7431b5; Mr F. Burrough (Berks), 7001bs; Mr C. Burleigh (Cornwall), 6741b5; Mr A. S. Woolley (Monmouth), 6851b5.
