MUMMY’S CALLING!
When Mummy goes to town she says, “Good-bye, my darling one, I’ll ’phone as quickly as I can, When all my shopping’s done;” And so I kiss her, with a smile, And watch her through the gate, Then play with all my favourite toys, But, oh! it’s hard to wait, Until the ’phone rings tingle-ling And Mummy’s voice rings through, “I’ve finished shopping and quite soon I’ll be at home with you.” (Sent by Kathleen Muller, Pleasant Point.) HOME You may build your modern houses, labour-saving service flats, "Children” not allowed within them, must not have a “dog or cats." You may build your tall sky-scrapers, all electric, quite compact, Central heating, so hygienic—laboursaving, that’s a fact! I would rather seek my home in some quiet country street; Roses climbing ’round the porch, cobblestones about my feet. I would seek a country cottage, I would 'tend with loving care Rambling rooms, a ragged garden; Children would be welcome there! (Sent by Joan Pemberton, Washdyke.) Why doesn’t a clock strike 13? Because it hasn’t the face to do so.
