PACK LINEN AWAY
If you have linen that you wish to store, first wash it, but do not starch it, as this tends to crack it. It should be packed away in black paper or blue if you find the black too expensive. After it has been packed in the paper, sew it into an old sheet or pillow case to keep the colour. ROYALTIES WEI) WITH COMMONERS Prince Ernst Leopold zur Lippcdetmold has married a comoner, the manageress of a dress-shop. This Prince is a compatriot and relative of Prince Bernhard zur Lippe-Bes-terfield, husband of Princess Juliana of Holland, so that whereas one rises toward a throne by marriage the other departs from crowns toward crepe-de-chine. The marriages of royalties with commoners in recent times have become so usual as almost to have created a new precedent. WINNING BY A NOSE According to Arthur O’Neill, New York photographer of magazine-cover beauties, a girl is only as plain as the nose on her face. O'Neill has photographed thousands of beautiful girls, and he says the nose is the most important feature. His face-appeal chart works like this: General layout of face, including nose, 40 per cent; the nose itself, 2 per cent.; with eyes, lips, teeth and hair scoring the remaining 35 per cent, between them. So the poets must away with trite little poems about the curve of her lips or the incense of her hair. CLEANING TORTOISE-SHELL To clean and polish tortoiseshell, make a paste of soft green soap and French chalk. Mix well, rub it on to the tortoiseshell with soft flannel or cloth, remove with a clean cloth, and finally polish with a piece of old silk
