LONE SCOUTS There are many boys throughout the district who at different times make enquiries regarding membership. This applies more particularly to boys in areas where no troops are situated, and the Scout Movement allows for the membership of Lone Scouts, who become attached to a Troop nearest to their locality. Will those boys who may wish to apply for membership, please cut out the application for membership from the Scout Notes and after filling in the form forward to the Commissioner at Timaru? To join the Scouts a boy must be between the ages of 11 and 18, Wolf Cubs are aged 8 to 12, and Rover Scouts 17 and over.

MESSAGE TO PARENTS Your boy should be a Scout because: 1. Scouting fills a boy's spare time with healthy occupations in healthy company. 2. Scouting gives a boy character which is essential to success in any career. 3. Scouting is not a military movement nor are we a pacifist movement we are out to make good Individual citizens. 4. Scouting gives a boy opportunities of service for God and his neighbour. This is the basis of religion. 5. Scouting makes a boy handy, hobbies are useful at home as well as interesting to himself. 8. Scouting gives a boy a sense pf honour and loyalty. He will not let you down or tell you a lie. 7. Scouting teaches a boy selfreliance so that he can fend for himself and help other people. 8. Scouting gives a boy health through open-air exercise and self-care he gains a sound mind in a healthy body. , 9. Scouting gives a boy happiness, through cheery comradeship and the enjoyment of nature. 10.
