TOWN HALL FOR TIMARU
To the Editor ol ” The Timaru Herald ” Sir, —I notice that the Timaru Borough Council is waking up and has appointed a committee to investigate the possibility of a suitable site for a Town Hall. Might I suggest that with the purchase of one or two, if necessay, sections behind the present Municipal Chambers, facing Latter Street, the Council will have a site for a hall'which will take a lot of beating. There are of course the Municipal Electricity Department workshop and store behind the Council buildings, but possibly they conflict with our newly gained town planning scheme. The hall could either be built with the main entrance to Latter Street, or preferably with the entrance facing King George’s Place through the existing Municipal Chambers. This would probably necessitate the shifting of some of the offices inside the building, but that should not present any ser'ous difficulties to an architect. Wishing to offer some constructive advice.—X am, CIVIC PRIDE. Timaru, July 13.
