As usual, visiting pacers and trotters secured a god share of prize money in the Auckland province this season, their record being 18 wins, which, with some place money, accounted for £4260. The visitors won the two-year-old classic races, and also the Champion Handicap, President’s Handicap and Alexandra Park Handicap, and filled second and third places in the Auckland Trotting Cup. Red Shadow, winner of the 1930 Great Northern Trotting Derby, in 3.20 2-5, a race record, and winner of the 1933 New Zealand Trotting Cup, was the outstanding southerner. He showed a fine return to form by being third to King’s Warrior and Rey Spec in the Cup, going 4.16 2-s—an excellent effort from 60yds. Red Shadow won the Champion Handicap • and President’s Handicap, his success in the latter event -being the easiest of the meeting, and the three races earned him £B7O.
