DISTRICT MEETINGS A meeting of the Waihao Downs Women’s Institute was held in the 1 schoolroom, Mrs Green presiding over a good attendance of members. Mrs E. C. Wright gave a very interesting demonstration of humpty-mak- ' ing and was accorded a vote of thanks. The specimen bloom competition was won by Mrs G. Millar with Mrs Green 1 second. ! The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Mewburn and Millar. Studholme ' In the absence of Mrs P. Hunter, Mrs ' T. L. Hayman presided over a good attendance at the monthly meeting of • the Studholme Women’s Institute yesl terday. The president congratulated the members on the success achieved in the i Winter Show and thanked those who . had assisted in providing exhibits i and in setting up the display. , The Golden Thread talk was given by i Miss J. Hunter on “A Trip from ; Whakatane to Rotorua.” An interesting demonstration on the ■ making of seagrass stools was given by ■ Miss Ross Hayman. , Miss Hunter and Mrs Hayman were r accorded votes of thanks on the motion of Mrs C. Rollinson. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostesses. The competitions resulted: Handmade handkerchief. Mrs R. Hayman 1, Mrs J. Kelly 2, Miss A. Rogers 3. > Marble cake, Miss G. Mr and Mrs W. Geddes, of Christchurch. are on a visit to Waimate. Mr C. Whatman left for Wellington yesterday to attend the Dominion Conference of the Young Farmers' Clubs. i , WOMEN’S INSTITUTE 1 L I KA WAI l Mrs Mcßae presided over a good attendance of members at the July meeting of the Ikawai Women’s Institute. The president welcomed three visitors. A committee of three was elected to take charge of a bay at the Waimate A. and P. Show. The president thanked all those who had helped towards the bay at the Timaru‘Show. Mrs Wallace gave a reading and Miss Jean Hamilton a useful demonstration of making wood fibre flowers.
